Without disputing anything you have written here, part of the reason Picasso raised the head is because Guernica is primarily an appeal for outside help and attention. It as much poster as painting, sacrificing much of the emotional depth (despair?) of Kollwitz's original in order to prompt the outside not to look away. As for the boobs, that's Picasso, I guess.
I am off and on with Picasso. I saw an exhibition of his works at Opera Garnier and some artworks of his were just crazy. But some are really interesting. His blue period is probably my favorite.
